This year I moved into an on campus apartment with a full kitchen. I knew we were going to have a blank wall, and I wanted to create something that would create some energy in the dorm! After searching Pinterest, I saw some ideas that I liked then created my own ‘kitchen puns’ for my own work! Here is my step by step process so you can create your very own art too:

Supplies

Here is what you will need to get started!

  • 5 pack of 8” x 10” canvases
  • 5 different colors of acrylic paint (I used blue, green, purple, pink and yellow)
  • Black acrylic paint
  • Paint brush
  • Exacto Knife
  • Pencil
  • Washi Tape
  • Download & Print the Kitchen Art

Step 1- Print out the kitchen puns here! Step 2- Paint each canvas

I chose very vibrant colors that will light up the kitchen, but I think pastel or even monochromatic colors would look great! It just depends on what kind of look you are going for.

Step 3- cut out the words and images

This was the hardest part of the project, as it is the most time consuming. You take the X-Acto knife and cut out the words and image.

Step 4- Trace

Take everything you cut out and use a pencil to trace it. This part can get a little messy because the pencil might smear, but the paint will fix that with no problem.

Step 5- Paint words and image

Step 6: (Optional) Take washi tape and put it around the edges of the canvas

Step 7:Hang up in kitchen

I had so much fun with this DIY project and so many people did not believe I made it and instead thought it was something from the store. It is a great way to add color to the wall in a cute and quirky way! Let me know how your kitchen art ends up, I would love to hear about it.
